My name is Neer Pandey, I have done my M.com B.Ed. in English & Economics, It’s a long journey of more than 20 years that I have been working as a teacher handling multiple task which helped me to grow & groom myself as a person, as an Educator & as a Counsellor.
How did you choose the field of education? Was it by choice or some inspiration from someone or a childhood dream? Please help with more details.
Right from childhood, I have been brought up in an environment where Education was always given the first priority. My Mom was a teacher, she has always motivated us to do whatever we like, I have seen her balancing both her personal as well as professional life efficiently. I too wanted to do something where I can take care of my family as well as my career so that at the end of the day, must feel contented that I have done something good in my own little way both for my family as well as for the society & that’s the reason I Chose this noble profession.
What would you like to mention for your greatest achievements in field of education? Which gives you a sense of satisfaction?
My greatest achievement in the field of education I feel is when the parents & the students come up to me with tears of gratitude in their eyes, & make me feel that I am the one who has helped them by overcoming all their anxiety & by providing them wings to touch the horizon.
How has the education system changed as per your view since you were a student yourself?
During our times education was totally based on teachers, they use to use the method that they were taught or they considered the best, today the functions of the teacher has changed from a disseminator of information to that of facilitator of education . The use of blackboard, white board, chalks has been replaced by smart-board, LCD Projectors, video streaming. The classroom has been transformed from normal to digital classrooms in all this have happened because of the incorporation of latest technology in the education system which has evidently brought a great changes in today’s time.
What are the qualities you think an individual should possess to be a good teacher or work in field of education?
Teaching is a great profession as it educates the next generation, a teacher has the responsibility to mould the young students to be disciplined, cultured & to be a vigilant citizen. A teacher not only play a role of a teacher but also of a parent, a counsellor, a friend, a role- model & for displaying all this role one must have the quality of Patience, determination, confidence which she need to have while teaching her students.
How do you handle discipline problems in today’s world? What is the most difficult aspect of discipline for you?
Discipline is essential not only in school but in every walk of life, I basically believe that the best way to handle it is to create a rapport with the students. We must be genuine, kind, approachable so that the student feel free to come up with their problems to us, We must also show that we care for them & compliment them for their accomplishment from time to time, Make the sessions interactive & interesting by adding various examples which help them to connect with the concept more clearly.
If you were to change 1-2 things in our Indian education system, what would be those & why?
There are many things that needed to be changed, with the changing times but most of all, I would like to change is, evaluating the students on the basis of marks. I feel that the child can be evaluated more on the basis of understanding the concept, by actually participating in other co-curricular activities, their skills in communicating the concept to others etc. the other thing which Is must that need to be changed is, that the education must be based more on practical theories rather than manual understanding.
What is your philosophy of teaching?
I firmly believe that the “Teaching is an art”. This artistic expression can be enhanced but not created. The innate attitude of guiding, caring & supporting comes naturally to a teacher, whose memories remain imprinted in a child’s mind which can never be erased.
What are your suggestions or opinions for today’s parents in shaping up children’s personality? Especially in this Online or computer age.
The lesson of life are learnt by experiences. The parents can bless their Kids by explaining them the values of ‘three Hs ‘-such as humanity, honesty & humility. Their anecdotes can serve as a ladder for students to lead a guided life with principles & prepare them to sail strong against unknown thunderstorms. It can help them grow not only professionally but also personally, moulding them to be a conscience citizen.
What are the three most important strengths you possess that will make you a successful teacher? Also any weakness in you which you want to improve upon?
I have a good listening skills, & get easily connected with my students because of which I can
connect with them on personal level. Regarding my weakness as today each & every sector has been taken over by technology, I feel I have to improve myself on my computer skills to be at par with my other counterparts & to do justice with my students.
If you had not been a teacher or not associated with education field, what would you have been and why?
If I wouldn’t have chosen teaching as my profession, I would rather be a lawyer or a councillor as they have a strong desire to help people with the challenges of their daily life. They also inculcate a feeling of trust where the people would feel comfortable, by confiding their problems with them.
What do you want to accomplish in your profession in next 5 years?
I had worked as a Principal in state board for 3 years but later due to some reasons switched myself to ICSE board, where I was appointed as Teacher cum H.O.D. In next 5 years I want to get retired as a Principal.
Any other things you would like to share about yourself, your profession, your hobbies, your views?
I love listening music in my pastime, get along with the people who are honest & hardworking wanted to be acknowledged as a good human being rather than a good teacher or an administrator.
How would you rate our website yayskool.com especially this teacher spotlight program? 1 being the worst, 5 being the best.
I love this website, specially this teachers spotlight programme, I rate it as 5 out of 5, as it has given a platform where the teachers can express their views wholeheartedly.
The role of a teacher in society is both significant and valuable. It has far-reaching influence on the society he lives in and no other personality can have an influence more profound than that of a teacher. Students are deeply affected by the teacher's love and affection, character, competence, and moral commitment.
Yet teachers don't get their due respect and credit these days. We have started a Teacher Spotlight program where we recognise the effort of these silent and true Heroes of our society and tell their story.
