Tell us about yourself – Your overall experience in education field, National / International experiences, variety of work you have done in the education field.
It gives me immense pleasure for taking up the profession of being a teacher because it was always my aim to contribute in nation building and to impart all that I have and the most important reason is always learning. I am an engineer graduate but after choosing teaching as profession I completed MA and M.Ed. I have now completed 7 years of teaching after working in corporate and my experience in the field of teaching is wonderful as I get to cater the new generation. Apart from teaching I work as ISA (International School awards) coordinator organized by British council and I also work as MASP (Microsoft Aspire School Program) coordinator of online teaching portal of Microsoft.
How did you choose the field of education? Was it by choice or some inspiration from someone or a childhood dream? Please help with more details.
I was always inspired by my teachers and always imitated them during my childhood. My teachers too gave me opportunity to do reciprocal teaching in class and that boosted my confidence as public speaker. I liked teaching and always grabbed opportunity of teaching to those whoever came for help. Initially I worked in corporate but later switched on to teaching and acquired the degrees accordingly.
What would you like to mention for your greatest achievements in field of education? Which gives you a sense of satisfaction?
As a teacher I always dreamt of imparting the best to my students in the best possible way. The best results of my students in board exams give me the sense of happiness and more than that I feel overwhelmed when my students whom I taught 4 to 6 years back still call me and thank me for what I had imparted into them. All such experiences justify my satisfaction as a teacher.
How has the education system changed as per your view since you were a student yourself?
Education now has become more student friendly and works in favour of the students. Students have more subjects combination offers better career opportunities usage of technology, no query is left unsolved, availability of teachers guide is not far. Social media has made learning more flexible. All this can be seen with the maximum percentage a student achieves now and then.
What are the qualities you think an individual should possess to be a good teacher or work in field of education?
A good teacher is one who does not only make the students prepare only one subject to score or complete the syllabus at its best but a teacher should take up the overall responsibility of a child and prepare him to face the society and the challenges that would come across in his life ahead.
How do you handle discipline problems in today’s world? What is the most difficult aspect of discipline for you?
Students are from different background and all have variety of issues. In today’s time students should be tackled with affection and they should be explained the consequences rather than taking hard steps, as children now a days are more aware of everything and more venerable than our times. Their adolescent factor should be kept in mind and they should be counselled well by understanding the root cause of their queer behaviour.
If you were to change 1-2 things in our Indian education system, what would be those & why?
There should be fear among students that life will not always be the way they want , so education system should be designed in such a way to develop the understanding that teachers and education should not be taken for granted.
What is your philosophy of teaching?
To pay focus on building the character and moral in children rather than completing course. To broaden their horizon on different aspects of life, teaching them how to be self-reliant so that they can make something good for them during difficult time and most important respect for gender.
What are your suggestions or guidance for today’s parents in shaping up children’s personality? Especially in this Online or computer age.
Talk and teach children about all sensitive issues and protect them only when you are supposed to. Teach them the difference between rights and wrong because learning of values begins at home. Don’t be overprotective because it is rightly said “Spare the rod and spoil the child.” Be friend with them so that they develop confidence in you and be with them when they really need you.
What are the three most important strengths you possess that will make you a successful teacher? Also any weakness in you which you want to improve upon?
My positivity is my biggest strength along with my confidence of working under any circumstances and my dedication towards my work. I wish to learn the art of ignoring few people and their baseless talks.( Hahahaha)
If you had not been a teacher or not associated with education field, what would you have been and why?
As I already mentioned about I worked in corporate in Management department. I chose this profession because I believe about myself that I can lead well and can be a good leader.
What do you want to accomplish in your profession in next 5 years?
I want to see my own school and a changed education system. I wish to build the nation with holistic developed students.
Any other things you would like to share about yourself, your profession, your hobbies, your views?
One should always be engaging and productive. We should utilize each and every free minute in acquiring knowledge and plan of implementing the learning.
TEACHERS SPOTLIGHT PROGRAM
The role of a teacher in society is both significant and valuable. It has far-reaching influence on the society he lives in and no other personality can have an influence more profound than that of a teacher. Students are deeply affected by the teacher's love and affection, character, competence, and moral commitment.
Yet teachers don't get their due respect and credit these days. We have started a Teacher Spotlight program where we recognise the effort of these silent and true Heroes of our society and tell their story.
