Tell us about yourself – Your overall experience in the education field, National / International experiences, variety of work you have done in the education field.

I initially joined COLLEGE on an ad-hoc basis, work there for 2 years then I got a call from little Flower Convent school Dhariwal and decided to join. I am working here from the last 9 years and teaching GEOGRAPHY to 9th and 10th std. I also go for paper checking of the ICSE board for GEOGRAPHY. I am also the subject moderator and Quiz Incharge.

How did you choose the field of education? Was it by choice or some inspiration from someone or a childhood dream? Please help with more details

Well, to be honest, I never thought of becoming a teacher but yes when I realize I can't get into what I wanted so I decided to become a teacher because I was sure I can give my best to this profession and today I am proud of being a teacher.

What would you like to mention for your greatest achievements in the field of education? Which gives you a sense of satisfaction?

My greatest achievement is that I am learning something new daily. Every new day brings something new to me, new challenges new information. I have to keep myself updated so daily I achieve something new.

How has the education system changed as per your view since you were a student yourself?

A lot and its both good and bad, today's education system involve projects, more use of internet computers, subject matter is not only confined to books , student has to go beyond the books and I feel today's education system is more student centric. Its good but on the other side I feel, somehow all the parents can get involve themselves into it. Like where I'm working, parents are not so comfortable with the internet and computers so they can't involve themselves in their child's education which I think should not be.

What are the qualities you think an individual should possess to be a good teacher or work in the field of education?

A lot of patience is needed....as a teacher has to deal with the numbers of students. He should be composed, good listener and a communicator. Should have a good presence of mind, knowledge of the subject and Good sense of humor so that the students should not feel bored.

How do you handle a discipline problem in today's world? What is the most difficult aspect of discipline for you?

For handling discipline, I try to make my lecture interesting. I try to relate it with various life activities so that students can easily relate to it. In between, I try to create little humor so they may not feel bored. I try to involve myself sometimes in their activities.

If you were to change 1-2 things in our Indian education system, what would be those & why?

Mark system. Still I believe that the education system is more marks oriented rather than knowledge-oriented.

What are your suggestions or guidance for today’s parents in shaping up children’s personalities? Especially in this Online or computer age.

Try to be with their child as much as possible.

Keep a watch on them, not necessarily that child should know this.

Listen to your child.

Have confidence in him..he/she for sure is best.

What is your philosophy of teaching?

I want to make my student attain knowledge not just marks.

What do you want to accomplish in your profession in the next 5 years?

To be honest I just want to attain one thing...that whenever my students think of me they can say that we have learned something good from this teacher which has helped them to face various life challenges.

Any other things you would like to share about yourself, your profession, your hobbies, your views?

Listening to old Hindi songs and cooking is what I like to do.

How would you rate our website yayskool.com especially this teacher spotlight program? 1 being the worst, 5 being the best

I would rate it as 4 out of 5.

Teacher Spotlight Program

The role of a teacher in society is both significant and valuable. It has far-reaching influence on the society he lives in and no other personality can have an influence more profound than that of a teacher. Students are deeply affected by the teacher's love and affection, character, competence, and moral commitment.

Yet teachers don't get their due respect and credit these days. We have started a Teacher Spotlight program where we recognise the effort of these silent and true Heroes of our society and tell their story.
